Magnetic stripes are a great addition to any plastic cards as it enables data to be encoded and assigned to the card. This is usually a number which is then linked to a customer to track how the card is used, who by, when and what for.
There are 2 types of magnetic strip – LoCo (low-coercivity) and HiCo (high-coercivity). Coercivity is the term used to designate how strong a magnetic field must be to affect data encoded on the stripe, and therefore, how immune the data is to damage.
So, which one will you need? The LoCo magnetic strip is the most commonly used type outside of the banking World. LoCo strip are a lower cost and work well for loyalty, membership, gift and discount cards.
You may require a HiCo magnetic strip in some circumstances – please double check with your epos equipment provider before placing an order.
